Bench Press

Each athlete will perform as many reps as possible with the following weight. The weight and number of reps will be recorded.


Rules:

  1. Buttocks cannot be raised off the bench. If this happens the rep will not count.
  2. The elbows must be completely locked in order for each rep to count.
  3. The bar cannot remain on the lifter's chest for more than ten (10) seconds
  4. No excessive bouncing of the bar off the chest is allowed.
  5. Each lifter is encourage to work at a steady pace with no stopping between reps.
  1. The athlete will stand with feet shoulder width apart and perform 4 consecutive vertical jumps.
  2. The athlete will be given two trials with the best result being recorded.


Sit and Reach

This tests the flexibility of the hamstrings and low back. The equipment use for this test will be the ACUFLEX I

Rules:

  1. The athlete is to remove his shoes
  2. The athlete is to sit with his knees straight and his feet touching the base of the platform.
  3. The athlete places his hands on top of each other to form a point and extends arms.
  4. The athlete leans forward as far as possible.
  5. The athlete is to keep knees "locked out" at all times, the tester will apply some pressure over the knees to assure this position.
  6. The athlete will have two attempts with the best number being recorded.

10 / 20/ 40 Yard Dash (Surface: All Weather Track)

Each player will have the opportunity to run two (2) 40-yard sprints with hand held and electronic timers recording times at 10 yards, 20 yards, and 40 yards. There are two watches at each checkpoint and the best time is recorded at each checkpoint. The hand held times will be recorded separately from the electronic times. The players will REMAIN IN THEIR SEQUENCE ORDER throughout the test with their names announced prior to each run.

Rules:

  1. All athletes will start each sprint from a 3-POINT stance having no part of the body past the starting line.
  2. Each player must remain set for 2 seconds or they will be whistled back for a restart.
  3. The "Start Captain" will monitor each start to control any tendencies for a "roll-out" or a "quick" start.
  4. If the athlete is whistled back, no penalty will be reported, the athlete will get a short rest and then proceed to retest.
  5. The time will be recorded in the hundredth second.


Vertical Jump (Surface: All Weather Track)

The vertical jump will be measured using a Vertec TM system for measuring vertical jumps. The procedure for measuring the vertical jump is to use the difference for the jump measurement and the standing reach measurement. Each player will get two (2) attempts and the best jump will be recorded.

Rules:

  1. The athlete is not allowed to "stagger" his feet, the feet must be at shoulder width apart.
  2. The athlete is not allowed to "rock" before he attempts to jump. The athlete will squat and then immediately jump.
  3. The results will be recorded in inches.

Triple Jump (Surface: All Weather Track)

The Triple Jump will be measured as the distance (feet/inches) from the back of the starting line to the nearest heel to the start line. The athlete will perform 3 consecutive broad jumps for maximum distance.

Rules:

    1. The athlete will get two (2) attempts, with the best jump being recorded.
    2. The athlete must jump and be able to "Stick" the landing.
    3. The player is not allowed to fall backwards, and/or reach back with hand.
    4. If the player falls, etc… the player will be allowed to jump again without penalty.


Broad Jump (Surface: All Weather Track)

The standing broad jump will be measured as the distance (feet/inches) from the back of the starting line to the nearest heel to the start line.

Rules:

  1. The athlete will get two (2) attempts, with the best jump being recorded.
  2. The athlete must jump and be able to "Stick" the landing.
  3. The player is not allowed to fall backwards, and/or reach back with hand.
  4. If the player falls, etc… the player will be allowed to jump again without penalty.


20-Yard Shuttle (Surface: Carpeted)

The athlete will straddle the 5 yard line in a 3-Point stance. The player will run left to the 10 yard line, then run right to the GL and then left - back through the 5 yard line. The time will begin on first movement and end when the athlete has crossed the finish line. Two timers will be used, with the average of the two times being recorded.

Rules:

  1. Each player will get one (1) attempt.
  2. The athlete must touch the yard line with his hand.
  3. If the player falls or slips, the athlete will be able to repeat the test without penalty.
  4. Time will begin on first movement and end when the player crosses the finish line
  5. The time will be recorded to the nearest hundredth second.



60-Yard Shuttle (Surface: Carpeted)

The athlete will begin at the 15 yard line in a 3-point stance. The athlete will sprint to the 10 yard line and back, then proceed to the 5 yard line and back, and finally to the goal line and back. Two timers will be used, with the average of the two times being recorded.

Rules:

  1. Each player will get one (1) attempt.
  2. The athlete must touch the yard line with his hand.
  3. If the player falls or slips, the athlete will be able to repeat the test without penalty.
  4. Time will begin on first movement and end when the player crosses the finish line.
  5. The time will be recorded to the nearest hundredth second.


3 Cone Drill (Surface: Carpeted)

The cones are placed 5 yards apart and placed in an inverted "L" position. The athlete will start in a three/two point stance. He will sprint from Cone A to Cone B and then back to Cone A. Then he will sprint around the outside of Cone B towards the inside of Cone C. The athlete will go around Cone C and back to the outside of Cone B on the way to the finish line at Cone A. Two timers will be used, with the average of the two times being recorded.

Rules:

  1. Each player will get one (1) Attempt.
  2. If the player slips, falls or fails to run the sequence in the proper order they will get to restart without penalty.
  3. The player must touch the line between Cone A and B.
  4. The player may not put his hand to the ground when making turns and cuts around Cones B & C.
  5. Time will begin on first movement and end when the player crosses the finish line.
  6. The time will be recorded to the nearest hundredth second.


Cybex Isokinetic Testing

This tests the peak torque and ratio of the hamstrings/quads of the athlete during leg extension/curl. A NORM cybex machine will be used at speeds of 60°/sec and 360°/sec.

Rules:

  1. Each player will be allowed to warm-up on a stationary bicycle.
  2. The athlete will be secured in the machine.
  3. The peak torque results will be posted as well as the graph at 60°/sec.


Anthropometric Measurements

Height

Height will be recorded in feet and inches to the nearest 1/8 of an inch.

Weight

Weight will be measured in pounds to the nearest pound.

Body Fat

Body fat measurements will be taken using a Lange Caliper using the formula developed by Pollock, Schmidt and Jackson, 1980. It will also be taken by an Omron Body Logic Body Fat Analyzer (Model HBF-301).

Neck, Chest, Biceps, Thigh, Calf Circumference

Circumference measurements will be taken at the widest part of the muscle and recorded in inches to the nearest 1/8 of an inch.
